Using Single-Cell Functional Analysis to Identify Cellular Drivers of Pathology

Transplant rejection is a major concern associated with kidney transplantation (KT). Researchers have linked terminally differentiated effector memory (TEMRA) CD8+ T cell presence and activity with elevated risks of kidney dysfunction and transplant failure. However, the relationship between TEMRA CD8+ T cells and kidney transplant rejection is poorly understood. Doan Ngoc and colleagues from the University of Nantes sought to characterize TEMRA CD8+ T cell function in kidney transplant recipients.

Download this research summary from IsoPlexis to examine how researchers employed single-cell secretome characterization to discover that TEMRA CD8+ T cells are preferentially activated in KT patients with humoral rejection, highlighting a potential target for future therapeutic strategies against KT failure.
